Clarification following the press conference held today in Cannara by Cereplast

Novara, 5 May 2011
Novamont S.p.A., a worldwide leader in bioplastics and compostable materials, would like to clarify, in order to avoid any possible misunderstandings that may have arisen following the press conference held on May 5th, 2011 by Cereplast in Cannara (Perugia), that it has been operating independently in North America almost since the company was found.

Further on, beside working for many years with an own representative, Novamont expanded its presence on the North American market when it set up a new company, Novamont North America, Inc. headquartered in Danbury, Connecticut.

Novamont has contributed substantially to the development of the composting industry in North America and was one of the founding members of the Biodegradable Products Institute (BPI). The North American organic waste treatment and composting industry has grown significantly in the past decade and the market is now ready to take a big step forward, as the sensitivity to environmental issues is ever more widespread and greater attention is being paid to the economics of waste disposal.

Novamont considers the United States and Canada to be an area of strategic development and plans to make significant investments in order to build upon its presence at all levels. The company aims to develop a system integrating agriculture, industry and the environment, applying its innovative chemical technologies to create a development model that will maximize economic and environmental efficiency and save resources.

The creation of a US affiliate is a major step in Novamont's strategic development plan for this area of the world.

Novamont SpA, a subsidiary of Banca Intesa San Paolo and Investitori Associati, is the leader in the production of bioplastics obtained from renewable raw materials of agricultural origin. With 173 employees (30% of them working in R&D), it invested over 10% of its total sales in 2009 (around €63.6 million) in research and development. It has an overall production capacity of 80,000 tons per year. The company holds a patent portfolio that includes 90 patent families and 800 internationally registered patents. It is based in Novara and its production sites are in Terni. It operates directly or through its distributors in Germany, France, Benelux, Scandinavia, Denmark, United Kingdom, United States, China, Japan, Australia and New Zealand.
