Novamont was created as a Montedison research centre and given the ambitious objective of “Living Chemistry for Quality of Life”. Since the outset Novamont has made significant contributions to creating a new industrial policy capable of combining the requirements of development and sustainability and has created a system integrating chemistry, agriculture, industry and the environment for “sustainable development” with low environmental impact. Its mission is to find solutions to the pressing problems of environmental pollution by developing products from renewable raw materials of agricultural origin, which minimise production of post-consumption waste, and processes entailing low environmental impact.
A new innovation model
Novamont’s innovation model involves redesigning the entire system through the following measures: specific attention to staff training, managing complex research projects, developing strategic partnerships, playing an active role in defining quality standards, strategic management of intellectual property, cultural activities, the creation of integrated production chains and case studies.
Two keywords: participation and involvement
The “Living Chemistry for Quality of Life” project gave rise to a particularly intense and productive partnership with universities, institutions, associations and companies for promoting a new commitment to sustainable development.
A new partnership
Novamont worked with key public and private-sector bodies involved in creating models for sustainable development to form AssoSCAI (Association for the Development of Environmental Competitiveness in Business). This non-profit association aims to develop a new business culture in which environmental management is adopted as an element for strengthening the competitiveness of companies, both at a local and global level.
Novamont’s philosophy has always been to develop genuine partnerships aimed at pursuing projects that can deliver concrete environmental benefits.
