The Italian Bioeconomy Strategy now online for public consultation

The Italian Bioeconomy Strategy is now online on the website www.agenziacoesione.gov.it and open for public consultation. Citizens and all the stakeholder interested in the topic are invited to express their views until 23rd December 2016.

The Bioeconomy Strategy was promoted by the Italian Presidency of Council of Ministers. The drawing up of the document involved the Ministry for the Economic Development, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Forestry, the Ministry of Education, University and Research, the Ministry of the Environment and Protection of Land and Sea, the Committee of Italian Regions, the Agency for territorial cohesion, and the Italian Technology Clusters for Green Chemistry and AgriFood.

The Strategy aims to provide a shared vision of the economic, social and environmental opportunities and challenges associated with the carrying out of an Italian Bioeconomy based on longer, more sustainable and locally rooted value chains. It also represents a significant opportunity for Italy to enhance its competiveness and role in promoting sustainable growth in Europe and in Mediterranean basin.

The Ministry for the Economic Development presented the Strategy at Ecomondo 2016, the international trade fair on material and energy recovery and sustainable development, during the conference "Horizon 2020 and the bio-based industries joint undertaking (JU BBI): opportunities for jobs and growth in the mediterranean region" at the presence of John Bell , Director of Bioeconomy in DG Research and Innovation (European Commission) and Philippe Mengal, Executive Director of the Bio-Based Industries Joint Undertaking (JU BBI).
