LEGISLATION ON PLASTIC BAGS

In 2014, California passed a plastic grocery bag ban. The bill Solid waste: single-use carryout bags stipulated that as of July 1, 2015, many stores couldn’t provide a single-use grocery bag to a customer.

The law provides an exemption for compostable bags, which can be sold by stores at a minimum 10 cents.

The law was challenged and will undergo a referendum on November of 2016.
