Integrating the agricultural primary sector in the sustainable bio-based economy: Luigi Capuzzi among the guests of the webinar organized by SCAR and BBI JU

On June 29, the webinar “Integrating the agricultural primary sector in the sustainable bio-based economy” was held online. The event was organized by SCAR BSW, the Bioeconomy Strategic Working Group under the Standing Committee on Agricultural Research, and BBI JU SRG, Bio-based Industries Joint Undertaking’s State Representatives Group.

During the webinar, participants had the opportunity to analyse obstacles for and benefits of a better integration of primary producers also through the presentation of several case studies.

Among the speakers also Luigi Capuzzi, R&D Director Novamont, who took part in the session “Best practices on the participation of primary producers in bio-based projects”.

Capuzzi illustrated the case study of FIRST2RUN, the first flagship project coordinated by Novamont and funded by BBI JU, as a successful example for the involvement of primary sector, both for the cultivation of oil crops aimed at revitalizing the territories and offering opportunities to diversify activities of traditional farmers, and for the validation and the application of low impact bio-products on field.
He also recalled the long-standing partnership between Novamont and Coldiretti, the largest farming organization in Italy and in Europe, to create a new model of cooperation which introduces innovation and regeneration both into industry and agriculture.

A video-message of Roberto Moncalvo, President of Coldiretti Piemonte, then highlighted how this collaboration led to the development of new business models with deep roots in the regional areas, conceiving the integration of industry with the agricultural sector with a win-win approach.
