Novamont as a virtuous example at the Circular Economy Stakeholder Conference of the European Commission

The Circular Economy Stakeholder Conference was held on 6 and 7 March 2019. The European Commission and the European Economic and Social Committee organized the annual event with the aim of promoting the mobilization of the primary sector, industry and services, together with the public sector and civil society, to seize the challenges and opportunities offered by the circular economy.

The 2019 edition summed up the results of the Circular Economy Action Plan, which proved to be a success for the transition from a linear to a circular model. During the discussion, the role of the circular economy emerged as an enabling factor for the achievement of the objectives for the sustainable development of the 2030 AgendaSDGs.

On March 6, Roberto Ferrigno, Novamont’s EU Policy Advisor , took part in one of the six parallel sessions and in particular to the "Towards Circular Industrial Value Creation" workshop hosted by Antti Peltomäki, DG for the Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs.

During the panel, Ferrigno illustrated how the circular bioeconomy based on the reindustrialization of dismissed or no longer competitive sites can contribute to reducing environmental impacts and the generation of bioproducts, but also to the creation of value and benefits for the society and for the economic system.

Among the many virtuous examples of circular economy, in addition to Novamont there were also Kalundborg Symbiosis, Axelera Cluster, Circularise and SMEUnited.
