Novamont at the 16th European Bioplastics Conference

The 16th "European Bioplastics Conference", the leading event for the international bioplastics community, took place in Berlin on November 30 and December 1.
The conference, organized by European Bioplastics, the association that represents the bioplastics industry at European level along the entire supply chain, aims at promoting new business relationships and reaching decision-makers along the value chain, also offering the opportunity for participants to discuss and deepen trends, markets and innovations through several round tables.

On November 30, Henk Voojis, Consultant Market Development Novamont, was among the speakers of the session "Bio-based plastics: measuring and communicating sustainability". Voojis emphasized the role of communication for the bio-based products sector, highlighting the importance of the correct use of terms and their clear transposition on the products to provide transparency and better understanding to consumers and all stakeholders.

On December 1, Biorepack, the Italian Consortium for the organic recycling of biodegradable and compostable plastic packaging and the first international Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) scheme for compostable packaging, was presented.
Biorepack, which today has more than 200 members, including Novamont, aims to promote the development of separate collection of biodegradable and compostable plastic packaging waste within the organic fraction of urban waste and their management for recycling in composting/anaerobic digestion plants. A strong commitment is also dedicated to communication: the Consortium promotes the labelling of biodegradable and compostable plastic packaging to improve recognisability and correct end-of-life management and supports campaigns aimed at raising awareness of citizens and consumers, such as the recent example of "Beyond appearances".
