CARRIER BAGS AND BAGS FOR FRUIT/VEGETABLES IN NEW GRADES FOR HIGH ENVIRONMENTAL AND TECHNICAL PERFORMANCE WITH SALDOFLEX AT K 2016

Live production of bags for fruit and vegetables at the Saldoflex stand to demonstrate the performance of the new grades of fourth-generation MATER-BI

Novara – Düsseldorf, 19 October 2016 – An unmissable demonstration will take place every day from the 19th until the 23rd of October at K 2016, the premier trade fair for the plastics and rubber industry held every three years in Düsseldorf. Saldoflex (www.saldoflex.it - Hall 3/F54), the historic Lombard company which for over 50 years has been a world leader in the production of high-tech automatic heat sealers for plastic films and for the flexographic printing of plastic films, will produce bags for fruit and vegetables in a live demo using the new grades of fourth-generation MATER-BI. This will be a hot ticket for all operators interested in exploiting the business opportunities offered by the range of MATER-BI bioplastics produced by NOVAMONT, compliant with the requirements of recent French laws on the separate collection of organic waste.

The fourth generation of MATER-BI combines the two established technologies of complexed starches and polyesters from oils as well as azelaic and pelargonic acids and sugars transformed through fermentation into bio-butanediol. These solutions contain an even higher proportion of renewable raw materials and an even lower level of greenhouse gas emissions and dependence on fossil feedstock, and can be used in a wide range of applications, including flexible and rigid films, coatings, printing, extrusion and thermoforming.
The range of MATER-BI bioplastics can optimise the use of resources and minimise environmental risks associated with end-of-life thanks to a C14 renewability percentage of over 50, cradle-to-grave greenhouse emissions per kilo of product at least 54% lower than those for traditional plastics, recyclability according to the standards of national recycling consortiums, biodegradability in composting in accordance with standard EN 13432 and sustainable biomass used in production.

Products made from MATER-BI can be collected together with organic waste and sent for composting, in accordance with legislation in force in various European countries and consistent with the European directive on the reduction of packaging and waste production.
